Ilha da Queimada Grand
Brazil’s Ilha da Queimada Grande, also called Snake Island, has an
extremely high population of Bothrops Insularis (or) commonly known as the
Golden lancehead vipers.
This snake’s poison is very potent and dangerous that it melts human flesh around the
bite area and kills victims in an hour.
The island's is only inhabitant of a lighthouse keeper.
In the past history some people lived on the island to run the
lighthouse up until the 1920's when the last keeper and his entire family were
killed by a group of snakes who slithered into their home through the
windows.
Golden Lancehead
This snake is said to be one of the most poisonous snakes in existence
today with its poison more than 4 or 5 times more deadly than its mainland
brethren.
Local legend claims there are five snakes to every square meter, while a documentary on the Discovery Channel claims that in some places there are as many as one snake per square meter.
